Case: Imagine that you work at a think tank. Your task is to research an important data-related social problem. Design a 2-page infographic to inform the public about this issue. The infographic should convey information visually and be easy to digest.
An infographic combines text, data, and principles of good design to show information, patterns, or trends. Not all infographics are created equal. A good infographic (1) has a central argument or thesis, (2) tells a story, (3) uses quality data or information, and (4) creates a visually appealing design that enhances its communication.
Select one of the following general themes for your infographic, with the understanding that you will narrow down your topic (e.g., impact of bias in AI could be narrowed down to use of facial recognition systems in airport security and their impact on black travellers).
Option 1: Explain the sources and/or impacts of bias in artificial intelligence systems oralgorithm-driven content recommender systems.
Option 2: Explore the impact of data-driven decision-making in government. This may include how governments collect, analyze, and/or use data to inform policy, allocate resources, or enhance governance and services.
