In Chapter 1 we explored the history of family violence. Within the history there are several key events that shaped the future regarding the response to violence. Although there are many events, I have selected three specific events.

Explain the details of each event and why it was significant in family violence history. Also explain how these events shaped the future regarding the social problem of family violence.

The events are as follows: The first child abuse court case- Mary Ellen; Dr. Kempe's publication- the battered child syndrome; The first shelter for battered women-Chiswick Women's Aid.
