Assignment:
Explore the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic in Toronto and how the city's experience with this virus was connected to globalization. Please organize your paper in the following way:
(1) In your introductory paragraph, briefly discuss COVID-19 in the context of globalization. Following this, mention how Toronto was part of the spread and global response to the pandemic. Finally, I want you to state your thesis in response to this question: What is Toronto like now that it has gone through the pandemic?
(2) After the introduction, describe your experience during the pandemic. Be sure to mention the most memorable moment in your life as it relates to the pandemic. Even if you were not in Toronto at the time, tell me what you went through and how you are doing now.
(3) Next, pick a specific place in Toronto that you think best represents the connection between the city and the global nature of the pandemic. This place could be a part of the "spread" of the virus or the "response." Visit this place and describe what you see. Take a selfie there and include it in your essay. Tell me about the place and why you think it best represents the connection between Toronto and the world in the context of the pandemic. Compare the place now to when we were at the height of the pandemic. How does it make you feel?
(4) Once you are done looking at the topic from a macro level, I want you to move to the micro level. Try to find a place in Toronto in the context of the pandemic that is relatively unique to the city and not directly related to the global spread and response to the pandemic. Visit this place and describe what you see. Take a selfie there and include it in your essay. Describe the place and why you think it best represents Toronto's hyper-local (as opposed to global) response to the pandemic. How has this place fared after the pandemic? Has it gotten better or worse (maybe it is a shop that has gone out of business)?
(5) Conclude your paper by describing how it is related to the course as a whole.
