Explore reasons for project failures

Assignment Help Project Management
Reference no: EM131961941 , Length: word count:1500

Details Description: Individually prepare and submit a report on a project failure case study.

Task Aim

The aim of this assignment is to
- Provide experience in writing professional presentations/reports
- Explore reasons for project failures through a case study
- Demonstrate a student's understanding of lessons learnt and their application to project management techniques

Task Description

You will prepare and submit a report on a case study of your selection. The case study should investigate a ‘failed' project. The report should include a brief overview of the project, reasons for failure and the lessons learnt.

The selected case study can be from any industry but needs to include project management aspects. A case study that is about failed companies or failed general management, rather than failed project management, would not be suitable.

Please note that the case study is NOT allowed to be on the Sydney Opera House; this project is used as a case study in other courses and is discussed in class, so using this case study for your assignment is not allowed.

The format of the report is flexible and you are encouraged to think critically and creatively about how the information is best presented. This could be in a written report type format, with the use of figures and tables, or it could be in a poster (A3 size), a blog, a set of presentation slides (egpowerpoint or Prezi), a video, a magazine article, an interview, etc. There are many ways this could be presented, so you are encouraged to have some fun and creativity with the format.

If you do choose to do a traditional report, particular attention should be paid to the use of:
- Clear structure (use headings and subheadings!) and links throughout the report
- Appropriate graphics, videos, tables and use of dot points (it doesn't need to be an essay)
- Clear, concise and simple language

If you are intending to submit the report in a format which isn't normally presented as a pdf, such as an e-portfolio, then please discuss this with your course coordinator early in the course to make sure there isn't a last minute issue with the file format.
