Assignment:

Scenario: The tourism events agency would like a clear and simple visual map of the likely impacts of the event which they can use to better understand the positive and negative impacts overall and on certain stakeholder groups.

Using location explorer a map or virtual tour highlighting the likely impacts of the event. You should obtain appropriate photos (of this event or a similar event) and post pins in appropriate places to demonstrate the observable and unobservable impacts.

Context and Event (Ekka festival - The Royal Queensland Show)

  • select an event within Australia
  • select any type of event but is may be wise to peruse the literature first and there may be very few sources applicable to highly niche type events.

Map Structure

The Map should include the following:

1. Intro Overlay - this section should discuss the context in which the event would occur. The characteristics of the event, the host region, and the host population should be included as relevant.

2. Contexts - at least 4 contexts should be used: Positive Impacts, Negative Impacts, Mixed Impacts and Stakeholders. An additional context can be included if desired.

3. At least 5 pins should be included in each context.

4. Each pin, which describes some aspect of the impact of the event, should include as appropriate reference to the source of information which could include academic literature, media reports, images (with explanation)

5. At least 10 academic references should be included and at least 5 other sources of information which can include media, photos, videos. Please avoid links to dubious websites with advertising and click bait. Use only respected media sources, stand alone images, or personally created photos and videos.
