Introduction (800 words)
The introduction should catch the interest of the reader. It should start with a capsule statement of what the problem is and then should proceed to introduce the subject to a stranger. It should introduce the problem clearly and offer background information on the nature of the problem and its significance to your clinical practice.

Why is the question or questions worth answering?
What would you hope to learn from completing this dissertation?
You should ensure that the reader is left without any doubt as to the purpose of the investigation.
Summary of issues to address:
• What is the problem -In relation to patient care, what is the role of the nurse?
• What is known about the problem- Write about the Acts, laws, NMC Code, recent policies on this topic, Assessment tools, the care
• What is not known about the problem - What has changed and what has not changed- and why? Literature Review.
• What is your clinical experience of the problem- Data- NHS England e.g Write about research undertaken that shows ths is a continuing problem.
• How will your review address what is not known- Exploration to find out if there is an opportunity to undertake a Masters research project or further study into the area to improve Patient care, quality of care, reduce risk to the patient, improve patient experience or service user experience.
• Leading review question- Write/ show aims of what the literature review will explore? Give two examples at least.
• What are the objectives? What is your research philosophy? - Grounded.
