Considering the many different brainstorming tactics that have been introduced, choose ONE DIVERGENT tactic and apply it to a GENERAL problem. Ensure that you provide an explanation of the DIVERGENT tactic, where you got it from, any conceptual or contextual knowledge relevant, and show how you used it to generate novel ideas, solutions, or potentially creative outcomes.

Your outcome should be between 5 and 20 ideas for solving the problem that have a wide range of feasibility and creativity.

Then, choose a CONVERGENT tactic to help wittle down and distil out all of the ideas you have listed to decide upon a final solution to the problem. Do you think this was a creative solution to the problem? Why or why not?

Remember: show your work! Cite everything and be very clear on what you did and how you did it, citing where you have used class materials/concepts/readings.

For example: THE PROBLEM I CHOOSE IS NOSE PICKING. EVERYONE DOES IT AND ITS GROSS. HOW DO I STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING?
I am going to use De Bono's PO exercise (Baer and Kaufman, 2006) as my DIVERGENT tactic and COST FEASIBILITY as my CONVERGENT tactic. Po states that I should use a whimsical starting point for solving my problem and then and then respond to the statement, repeating the process until a solution is arrived at.

Here is my process:

1. Nose picking should be made illegal by rounding up those who do it, have them put in front of a stone wall, and have them shot.

2. You couldn't actually shoot people for nose picking. as you would most likely end up shot yourself, but you could make people feel even more uneasy about nose picking.

3. Maybe its not about making people feel uneasy about nosepicking, but maybe attempt to glorify nosepicking in some way?

4. What if I could make it look like nose picking was popular as a way to draw attention to it?

5. If you has really sexy people picking their nose in big goopy and stringy yellow globs and eating it in a commercial, you could really turn people off.

6. Running commercials may not be feasible, but what if you could build a billboard and make a picture of someone lusciously licking a booger off their finger?

7. Perhaps a campaign on twitter or facebook where you can make a meme of someone eating a booger and labeling it EAT BOOG a la the DRINK MILK commercials?

I think 7 actually could be done cheaply in a way to totally gross people out, make them more self concious about booger eating and perhaps mitigage or eliminate the whole nasty behavior by geting people to talk about is a la shock jockeying! I think this is highly creative as it juxtaposes nose picking as a sexy behavior, ultimately making it even more disgusting.
