Scenario
Acme Health, Inc. is a midsized regional health insurance company that currently offers group and individual policies in five states in the Northeast area of the United States. Acme's customers are small- to medium-sized businesses purchasing coverage for employees, and self-employed individuals buying coverage for themselves. Acme's senior management team is planning to expand aggressively into additional states in the next 6 months. The management team has asked IT to develop a new business intelligence system to help them make strategic decisions guiding the expansion. Senior IT staff are meeting with an outside consultant to plan the development of the new BI system.
Your Role
You joined Acme last month and are currently going through the company's management training program, which involves rotating through a series of short-term assignments in various departments to get an overview of all parts of the organization. You are currently working in the IT department as an assistant to the IT Director. He has asked you to sit in on the planning meeting for the new BI system development project and to be ready to help as needed with the project.
You Decide Activity or Assignment
Using the textbook and other resources you can find in the DeVry library and on the Web, learn about the systems development life cycle, the database life cycle, and agile development methods. Then write a memo to the executive committee of Acme Health Inc. that does the following.
1. Describes the major activities that the IT department must perform to develop the new BI system
2. Explains the process of agile development in your own words
3. Justifies the choice of agile development methods for the new BI system project
Your memo should be two to three pages, double spaced, in 12-point font, and professionally written and formatted. Use at least two sources: the textbook and one other source. Your information sources, including the textbook, should be cited using APA format.
