Overview: In this assigmanet you will seek to be an anthropologist explaining US American culture to an outsider. Using your fieldwork assignments as "field notes" you will describe a minimum of five topics (language, gender, marriage, etc.) to analyze the symbols, norms, beliefs, and practices that you think make up the main features of "American" culture.

Your paper will have:

  • An intro paragph
  • One parraph giving overview of methods used in anthropology and which ones you used (mostly interview, but also participant-observation, media analysis, etc).
  • 3 to 5 paragraps discussing both mainstream and contested symbols, norms, beliefs, and practices as they relate to your fieldwork activities and own analyses of topics such as: language, economic practices, political systems, the dynamics of power, stratification, gender, race/ethnicity, kinship, marriage, and the formation of families, religious beliefs, practices, and rituals, etc.
