Scenario
You are the payroll administrator for a manufacturing company who employees 200 people. It is a union shop and you pay several benefits to your employees, one of which is health benefits. You have both hourly and salary positions to pay. You use a bi-weekly pay period and use online accounting software for your accounting functions. Your supervisor has asked your to select the best payroll software for the company. You will need to perform some online research to find out which one will best suit the company. Use the following criteria (and others if required) to compare three different software packages. Select the best according to the company requirements.
Instructions:
Compare three different payroll software programs. In your comparison include the following elements:
Software customer service and support
Software features
Number of employees, ability to pay benefits and allowances
Software users: How many people are going to use the system you choose
Software training
Ease of use
Contractor payments
Tax collection and remittance
Terminations
Security
Off-cycle payroll. Sometimes you need to distribute bonuses or advances, perform final pay or make corrections.
Software deployment: Ask yourself where your software will be set up
Average user ratings
Cost (if you can find that information online)
Steps:
- List the Pro's and Con's of each system
- Rate each system using the above criteria. Assign each criteria an rate of between 1 to 5. You can use an excel spreadsheet or work table to complete the assignment.
Example chart: (Complete a chart for each software. Add up the ranking numbers and chose the one with the highest ranking and number of positive points. Justify your selection.
