Taylor's "Scientific Management Theory" viewed people at work more as machines only motivated by money, rather than as human beings in a social setting. The SMT focus was on production or task. Whereas Mayo and other Human Relations Theorists believed that workers are not just concerned with money but could be better motivated by having their social needs met whilst at work (something that Taylor ignored).
