Give opinion: Baack (2017) explained that coaching consists of a trainee placed with a coach to learn te coach's job. A coaching program can last anywhere from weeks to months while the trainee is receiving constant feedback and guidance to help them improve their skillset. Coaches will often encourage the trainee to discuss difficult situations that arise and to work towards finding various way in which the situation could be handled. This coaching technique is considered to be a relatively new program that also have various coaching styles. Mentoring programs were described as support provided by a higher-ranking expert both formally and informally to a trainee or protégé. The goal of a mentoring program is to increase the understanding of the organization as well as the competencies and achievements of the trainee. With mentoring, the trainee and the mentor decide on all aspects of the program. Together they decide things such as what topics to discuss and how long the program will last. Mentoring differs from coaching in the sense that mentors will typically teach the trainee how to avoid political problems rather than how best to deal with them. I have always experienced in my past and current work life a program similar to coaching. When I am new to a position, I have been placed with either one person or a rotation of people to shadow them and learn what they do on a daily basis. Typically I would shadow with one person at a time learning everything I need about their job role. Once I have learned what and how to do certain tasks, I would be left to do the job on my own while my coach stays close or checks on my progress. If I needed help, my coach would step in and show me or discuss with me what I need to do to improve. I have also been one to help train a newer employee. I do my best to remember how I felt and to make things as easy and understandable as I could. I also try to let the trainee physically do the tasks themselves as I have seen and felt that be a better method to remembering the tasks. I feel coaching is a very effective method as it is there to help guide a trainee and ensure complete and thorough understanding of every aspect of a job position. It also allows for open communication about the good and bad situations that can arise while working a particular position.
