This homework will prepare you to write the Discussion section of your research paper in Milestone Five. However, the journal homework does not include every critical element that is part of Milestone Five, so be sure to review the Milestone Five Guidelines and Rubric to understand what is expected in that homework and how your work in this journal connects to that homework.

In this journal, discuss your hypothesis as it relates to your research findings. Then, describe the strengths and limitations of your research. Finally, discuss areas of your topic that warrant future research.

Milestone Guideline

For this homework, you will submit an initial draft of your final project Discussion section. This section should recap your findings (including how they relate to your hypothesis), discuss how the findings fit with previous literature on the topic, discuss strengths and limitations related to your research, address tests that were not appropriate to conduct, and discuss areas for future research. Be sure you follow APA style when writing this section and demonstrate that your work has met expected study standards.

Specifically, be sure to address the following critical elements:

I. What were the results of the data analysis, and how do these results relate to the research hypothesis?

II. How do your obtained results complement or contradict the previous literature on the topic? Justify your assertions with data.

III. Outline the strengths and limitations of your research, supporting these assertions with your data analysis.

IV. Identify other tests you could have used, and explain why these tests were less appropriate for analyzing the data.

V. Based on the results from your data analysis, identify areas related to your topic that still need future research.

VI. Discuss the extent to which your study follows the American Psychological Association's standards.

3. Note that the Discussion is different from your Results section drafted in Milestone Four. Your writing in the Discussion will be a summary of the Results section. It shows the relationship between the null hypothesis and your findings.

B. Describe the strengths of your research. For instance, you may have used an existing, already vetted survey instrument. Or perhaps you did a good job following APA (American Psychological Association) research standards and guidelines.

C. Describe the limitations of your research. Consider such items as:

1. Participants in the sample

2. Data collection methods

3. Number of responses

4. Diversity

D. Discuss areas related to your topic that need future research. For instance:

1. What did you discover from your analysis that needs further exploration (e.g., different populations, different variables, different demographics, etc.)?

2. What might new research designs do differently?

3. How could the limitations you mentioned be addressed in future research?
