Respond to these two discussion posts in your own words with APA format 7th ed and a Turnitin report
Question 1. Based on the emotional intelligence assessment, there was nothing I had to clearly work on as far as being a better leader or manager. I think that being a leader is when you can motivate and inspire others to grow and succeed in a company. No matter what obstacles are faced you are the person that your team members come too. You have to out yourself in other people's shoes as a leader because you don't ever know what someone is going through so being able to make sure you can be that person for them means a lot. Communication is key so making sure you are a effective communicator really helps with interacting with your teammates. Also, giving constructive feedback is important as well because you get to give your teammates feedback on how they can grow to achieve their goals which is very important so they know how they can improve or some things they are doing good at. Having the empathy for your team members is important as well because you get to be there for them when they need someone in times that may happen unexpectedly.
Question 2. This is a three-part discussion question. Take the Emotional Intelligence assessment on page 60, Figure 2.5 in the textbook.
1. Use the scoring information in the blue shaded area, select one area that you think you need to work on to be an even better leader/manager.
This part of the textbook brings our attention to personal qualities of the managers, specifically emotional intelligence. Since managers are people too, it is logical that their emotions impact their work life. The level of emotional intelligence has a huge influence on understanding the feelings and effectively managing those.
The scale measures four aspects of one's emotional intelligence: self- emotions appraisal, others-emotions appraisal, use of emotion, regulation of emotion. The questions are simple. However, our own opinion and opinion of others about us may differ. It is doubtful anyone would rate themselves less than 4 on a scale from 1 to 7. I think, improving oneself and all four aspects of emotional intelligence suggested in this questionnaire is a lifelong journey. I would have to be able to understand and manage my own emotions to be able to understand the emotions of others. And I would have to learn to manage my own emotions to possibly help others to do the same.
Question 23 Explain why you think this is important to be an effective leader.
Paying attention to one's emotions and emotions of others is part of decoding the messages sent to us. We react and make decisions based on our interpretation of how we and others feel. The way we use and regulate emotions is sending a message to those around us. We use feedback from others to analyze whether we understood others correctly. The four questions about regulating emotions concentrate on control. It sounds like instead of reacting in an angry manner one needs to be able to calm down before responding or taking action. I realize that people sometimes misunderstand my feelings and emotions due to cultural differences. To be a better leader, it is important for to me to make sure my messages get across as clear as possible.
Question 4. What could you do to improve in this area?
Understanding and managing my own emotions and of others contributes to the overall level of emotional intelligence of every person. When working with people for some time I learn the way they feel and how they express emotions. In order to improve managing emotions of others I am trying to pause and think it over before responding to their questions or concerns. I prefer to be a proactive leader instead of reactive. Also, I am taking this class to learn to be a better leader.
