ACME Furniture is a small company designing custom furniture. They currently have 4 furniture designers. ACME has their own in-house 8-year-old server and 4 desktop computers. Their furniture designers use a custom software called "ACME-Furniture2015" that was written in 2015 to design furniture projects for their clients. They pay a software development company $500 per year to support the software. But the software company just developed a new version called "NEW-ACME-Furniture." ACME's price to buy the new software is $2000.

The server hardware is too slow. It needs to be upgraded.

ACME has been looking for an alternative. They found another furniture design application called "Best Furniture in The Cloud" offered as a SaaS cloud service, costing $600 per year per designer.

ACME is a growing company, and they expect to hire 2 more furniture designers next year. ACME management is not sure what to do. Your friend's mother is a VP at ACME, and she has asked for your professional opinion to help them choose one of the 3 options:

Purchase the new server hardware. Continue to use the existing "ACME-Furniture2015" software and continue to pay the yearly software maintenance fees.
Buy a new server and pay the software developer a one-time fee of $2000 to upgrade the kitchen design application. And continue to pay the yearly software maintenance fees.
Stop using the "ACME-Furniture2015" software and switch to "Best Furniture in The Cloud" cloud service offering.
