At Blue Bay Early Learning Centre, a number of measures have been put in place that reflect inclusion and diversity:

  • 86% of educators are female. To improve the balance of male and female educators' management implemented a recruitment strategy targeted male educators
  • Where consent is needed in relation to children, the term 'parent/legal guardian' is used.
  • The enrolment form recognises that parent/legal guardian may include, for example two heterosexual parents, same-sex parents, single parent, grandparents, and foster parent.
  • At least one trainee position at the centre is targeted at a candidate who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Written information about the service is also available in the most common languages other than English spoken in the local community.
  • The Director ensures, as much as possible, that play equipment and resources used by the children reflects diversity.
  • The Director recognises that some parents/guardians have low literacy levels and uses strategies such as visual imagines, demonstration, and language free of jargon is used when communicating.
