Select 2 art works from the so called "romantic" period of the 19th century and explain how and why these art works reflect the ideas and values of the changing times (industrial revolution and scientific and technological revolutions, democratic revolution).

One artwork should reflect the changes and one should not (escapism into the rural pat or escape into exotica)

Make sure you discuss the class concepts: beauty (aesthetics), symbols, technology vs. nature, "spiritual" values, concept of nature, space and time, ideals and values of the society which produced the artwork etc.
