Problem- A by-product of Ethane C2H6 oxidation by O2 is acetaldehyde C2H4O. Acetaldehyde then produces a chemical called peroxyacetal nitrate or "PAN" (C2H3O3NO2), a nasty eye irritant. Consider the following reactions and explain why PAN concentrations often peak at the same time as O3 concentrations?

C2H4O + OH = C2H3O + H2O

C2H3O + O2 + M = C2H3O3 + M

C2H3O3 + NO2 + M = C2H3O3NO2 + M

( M is usually O2 or N2 and absorbs excess energy)

Please provide the balanced reaction.
