Response:

The main effect of the awakening was the rebellion against the despotic rule of religion, which spread to other areas of colonial life. In the growing population of the colonies in the 18th century and in large public gatherings, charismatic figures such as Whitefield and Tennant were sending messages.

Although a religious movement, the awakening has also had an impact in the cultural and political spheres. Civilized and polite customs, the ruling norms of colonial life, were set aside to support a more quarrelsome age. Awakening has changed the way we practice and think, as never before(Jones,121-122).

The effect of the great awakening is a respectful attitude against the politics and religion of consumer Britain. The colonists believed that they were more capable of carrying out tasks than of believing that god's will must be explained by the monarch or his bishops. The chain of power is no longer from god to ruler, but from god to man to ruler.

The children of revivalism later responded to this radicalism and popular self-righteousness in the American revolution, when they advocated against the oppressive ways of George iii.

The signatories of the declaration of independence do not appeal to any church, but directly to the world's highest judge. It was through the Renaissance of the first half of the eighteenth century that the colonists were finally able to emerge from the protection of the established Christian church and assert religious control over the fate of their country(Jones,123-124).

Another influence of the great awakening on colonial culture is the growth of the concept of state rule as a contract with the people. Parishioners during the revival gained an understanding of the covenant of their church as a contractual plan;

They argue that every believer is responsible for the obedience of the church, and that the church requires its members to be faithful to the Gospel. Therefore, parishioners reserve the right to rescind the covenant and cut off contact with the church without prior permission.

The concept of contract was a popular concept in Puritan society and reflected a common biblical understanding of common relations. It appeared in the mayflower contract, which later formed an ideological basis to break the British ideology. The concept of contract gradually became a religious and political bond in the colonies.
