Kay has just had his wisdom tooth pulled. His dentist has had to administer a local anesthetic, which has resulted in partially numbing his oral cavity and pharynx. The dentist warns Jake to not eat anything for several hours until the numbness wears off. Jake is very hungry and decides to ignore his dentist's warning and goes to McDonald's and buys a Big Mac and fries. As he tries to swallow the food (bolus), he begins to choke and gag. Explain why this is happening and what can potentially result.
