Assignment: any suggestions for further resources, questions of clarification, or providing context and insight. Avoid simple posts of agreement; if you agree, explain why, and then thoughtfully further the conversation.
In the video "Contract Negotiation Process" (LAPU, 2022), the speaker mentioned drafting a contract that can protect both parties simultaneously in the event. The speaker also observed that before signing the lease agreement with the owner, the potential tenant "still needs to inspect the space to make sure it can meet the needs of the business." It reminded me of a similar experience when I bought my house. The selling agent was also my buying agent. She helped me to get a better price on the house, which saved me twenty thousand dollars. The seller offered to give me all the furniture. However, neither seller nor the agent put into the agreement. After we closed escrow, the seller changed her mind and moved out all furniture before giving me the house keys. I checked with my buying agent, and she agreed with me. She offered me a check to purchase new furniture, which achieved a "meeting of the minds ."In the negotiation process, a meeting of the minds is essential because both parties need to be on the same page and achieve the agreement peacefully.
Furthermore, Ury (2011) described that "the potential is to change the game. And to change the game, you have to change the frame, the way we see things -- to change the frame from hostility to hospitality, from terrorism to tourism. And in that sense, the Abraham Path is a game-changer." By referring to the peace and third side, Ury (2011) explained that "the secret to peace is the third side. The third side is us. Each of us, with a single step, can take the world, can bring the world a step closer to peace." Going back to my experience, if I did not check with the buying agent to solve the furniture issue, I might write a negative review online and lose the opportunity for the check to get some new furniture. If we can think from different angles before making the decision, the negotiation process can be much easier than we initially thought.
From a Christian worldview, a covenant can be beneficial in entering an agreement and making ethical decisions in the workplace if we think from another perspective. Multiangle thinking is necessary when making ethical decisions and entering an agreement because selfishness is not ethical behavior. It might be beneficial for self in the short term, but in the long run, being considerate can create reliable and ethical business relationships. "If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest (Exo 22:25)." Therefore, being considerate and compassionate are the critical elements before drafting the agreement. It is essential to make ethical decisions to ensure the contract benefit and secure both parties to gain trust and reliability.
