Question: Carbohydrates are broken down in the digestive system to glucose that is absorbed into the bloodstream. Rising blood glucose levels stimulate the pancreas to release the hormone insulin. Insulin aids cells in the uptake of glucose by stimulating the movement of glucose transporters to the plasma membrane.

Below you will find an image of glucose. Can you use what you learned in Chapter 3 to explain why a transporter is necessary to get the polar glucose molecule into the cell? Keep in mind that under this scenario there is a higher concentration of glucose in the blood than there is in the cell.
