1. According to the text, one criticism/limitation of social strain theories is with the Anomie Theory and how it tends to make assumptions about situations of lower-class people. It also makes a generalization about structural frustration causing delinquency that has been criticized. Another criticism lies with the traditional strain theory because it tries to explain delinquency in the lower class but doesn't look beyond that into the other social classes. These theories also tend to discuss male delinquents with little application to female delinquency in any of the social classes. (Thompson, 2021).
2. The social strain theory developed by American Robert K, states that certain stress or the structure of an individual life can be a leading factor of why they decided to commit a crime. The idea of social strain theory makes logical sense. The social strain theory still has limitations when applied in a real-world setting. One of the biggest limitations found in social strain theory is that it fails to explain "white collar" crime. When an individual who has numerous opportunities and resources still turns to a life of crime. Social strain theory mainly focuses on the lower class and disregards others who commit crimes from different socioeconomic class.
