Three different faceplate designs have been selected for the radio intended for a new luxury automobile, and safety engineers would like to examine the extent to which their operation will be relatively intuitive to the motorist. Fifteen drivers are selected and randomly placed into one of three groups (faceplate 1, faceplate 2, and faceplate 3).

Each driver is then asked to insert a music CD and play track number 18, and engineers measure how long it takes for this task to be accomplished.

ANOVA is to be used in analyzing the data. Identify the independent and dependent variables, and explain whether this is a designed experiment.
