For each molecular orbital that contains electrons, draw a sketch of the molecular orbital. Your sketch should be shaded to correctly indicate the relative phases of a bonding or antibonding orbital as appropriate.

b) Refer to the molecular orbital diagrams you drew in part (a) and explain the following observation:

When the O2 molecule is ionized to O2+, its bond becomes stronger; however, when the C2 molecule is ionized to C2+, its bond becomes weaker.
