Problem: Applications of Audio in Human Computer Interaction Transcript Podcast

Content

Your podcast must include all of the following, in order:

Introduction: Tell the listener your name, the date, and the topic for your podcast.

Research and explain the difference between auditory icons and earcons.

Give reasons why and when/where audio can be useful, and give examples.

Explain when sound is not a good idea in an interface, and give examples.

Describe some of the obstacles to speech recognition or speech production (or both) and give examples.

Explain what accessibility and redundancy mean and why they are appropriate to incorporate in ethical design.

Conclusion: Thank the listeners for hearing you speak about this topic.

Timing Requirement

Ensure your final product is at least 90 seconds but not longer than 3 minutes in length. The reason for this requirement is that professionals are sometimes called upon to present information in a specific amount of time. It may help to think of this podcast as something that could be played on a radio show; going over the time limit may mean you will be cut off.
Planning and Execution

Plan your podcast by first writing out everything you plan to say, using the outline above, and a formal approach (no conversational speech). It is crucial that you have a script!

1) Recordings made without scripts tend to ramble, miss required content, and affect the vocal pacing. You will need to provide a written transcript to be compliant with accessibility rules anyway. This transcript must be submitted in an APA-formatted Word document with a title page.

2) Your work should show an understanding of the textbook reading, but do not quote from sources. Your podcast must be written and spoken completely in your own words.

3) Recording

4) When you record your podcast, try to sound like you are not reading. It may take more than one or two tries to produce a professional-sounding podcast. Try not to talk too fast or too slow, and avoid long silences. Record in an area without extraneous noise and make sure the volume is set for adequate playback levels.
