Read the case below that was adapted from Harvard Business Review. Then answer the questions at the end. Write one paragraph per question.
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CASE:
1. Does YouTube have an ethical obligation to make sure the content posted on it by users is truthful and factual? Or should YouTube just be a platform (or "library") for users to post whatever they want, regardless of whether it is truthful? Explain your reasoning.
2. Explain what YouTube has done to stop video posts from people accused of promoting hate speech. Give an example from the article.
3. Should people be able to trust what they see on YouTube if the video claims to be truthful (not fictional)? Or should people never trust anything they see on YouTube to be truthful? Explain.
4. Should social media platforms that are used by millions to post videos be regulated by the government to protect people from seeing videos that are racist, sexist, violent or pornographic? Explain your answer.
5. Do you generally trust the content you might view on social media like YouTube? If so, why? If not, why not?
6. If you were the head of YouTube, would you impose any measures to prevent sexist, racist, pornographic or violent videos from being put on the platform? Or would you continue to stick with the idea that "outrage equals attention" and allow anything that got more eyeballs? Explain what you'd do.
