Question: Your uncle and his wife have recently been approved to be foster parents and in a couple of weeks they will start taking care of a brother and sister, a thirteen-year-old boy and fifteen-year-old girl, who were taken from home in which they were severely neglected, and likely exposed to violence. Your uncle has been told very little about the maltreatment that his foster children have experienced, but he is very upset about it and he and his wife are worried that they will make things worse for the kids. Knowing that you took a developmental psychology course at university, your uncle has written to you asking for your insight and advice. In your letter back to him, without using technical jargon, explain what you know about uninvolved/neglectful parenting (part 1) and exposure to aggression (part 2), including the possible causes and the consequences of these two experiences.

Because your uncle has never had experience raising teenagers before, you should also provide him with advice on helping his foster children develop healthy self-esteem (part 3).
