1-In normal cells an RTK receptor that binds to epidermal growth factor is present. When EGF is present in the extracellular space it binds to the receptor and initiates an RTK signal transduction cascade that ultimately tells the cell to undergo mitosis. Describe what would happen to cell division if a cell begins to express both the natural EGF receptor and a mutated version that is capable of binding to EGF. While both receptors can bind to EGF the mutated version cannot initiate receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation.
2-Why is it beneficial for a cell signaling pathway to be coupled to a MAP kinase cascade which essentially activates a number of MAP kinase proteins via phosphorylation?
what are the methods of identification for viruses, fungi, parasites, and bacteria?
Amino acid compositions can be determined by heating a protein in 6 M HCL and running the hydrolysate through an ion-exhange column. If you were going to do an amino acid sequencing experiment, why would you want to get an amino acid composition f..
huntingtons disease is an autosomal dominant disorder. This means that if an individual has atleast one copy of the gene for the disease, they will exhibit the phenotype. If the frequency of the dominant allele is 0.08.
Brianna has myositis, a condition in which muscle cells are dying. What excretion product would muscle cell DNA be converted to?
In detail explain the structure and function of the heart and blood flow. Include the conduction system and blood vessels. Provide your response specific to your audience who are a group of lay people without a background in science.
Flask A includes yeast cells in glucose-minimal salts broth incubated at 30C with aeration. Flask B contains yeast cells in a glucose-minimal salt broth incubated at 30C in an anaerobic jar.
If you were to mix the primer and template DNA shown below , along w/ a DNA polymerase and all 4 DNTP's . Recreate the template with the primer hybridized to it.
What are the common structures of all amino acids? What structure is unique for each amino acid? How many natural amino acids exist?
Summarize the derivation, according to germ layer origin, of the important structures of the 4-day chick. Indicate the mechanisms of their formation. Include process of invagination, evagination (outgrowth of layer), cellular migration, and thicke..
Many eukaryotic mRNAs, but not bacterial mRNAs, contain introns. Describe how these sequences are removed during the production of mature mRNA.
Mammals contain a diploid genome consisting of at least 109 bp. Each group of 200 bp of DNA is combined with 9 histones into a nucleosome.
Determine what can be a reasonable explaination that some animals were found to have high levels of antibodies, but no such viral nucleic acids could be detected?
