Plant cells use a symporter to transport sucrose into their cells against sucrose's concentration gradient. The cytoplasm of a plant cell has a pH of 7. You grow plant cells in a petri dish containing a liquid that contains sucrose and has a pH of 7. You notice that the plant cells do not take up any of the sucrose. You try your experiment again using your friend's sucrose solution. You notice the plant cells now take up sucrose. After analyzing your friend's sucrose solution you notice that the only difference is that their solution had a pH of 6.7. Explain the following

a. Explain what type of transport is taking place, be specific.

b. Explain how the symporter works.

c. Explain why the plant cells take up sucrose in your friend's solution but not yours.
