Assignment: Discussion Board Assignment: Submit your original post by Thursday, Nov. 10 and submit your response to a classmate by Sunday, Nov. 13. After completing the reading for this week, share your informed thoughts on these two questions. Answer both questions in detail.

Question 1. Is health care is a moral right that the State should provide in your view? Try to be specific. IF you think it is a moral right, explain what type of health care is a moral right. (Is only life-saving support a right? Is preventative care, like vaccinations or testing, a right? Is any beneficial health care service a right - such as antibiotics or even occupational therapy? Is cosmetic surgery, if strongly desired, a right?) Which theory from the reading do you think best supports your view about these specific questions?

Question 2. Then, think specifically about the impact of rationing in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. (You were asked to read two online articles online about this.) So you should be familiar with the ethical dilemmas that were being faced in some areas as doctors struggled to decide who gets access to these limited resources. We have heard (on news since the pandemic) about situations in which hospitals have struggled to find enough ICU beds for patients and health care providers are overwhelmed trying to tend to all the patients. How do you think society should best decide who gets these limited resources like ICU beds and ventilators? If someone didn't get vaccinated and they then get the disease, do they have an equal moral right to scarce resources as others who got vaccinated? What are some principles or theories that help support your viewpoint on this? (in formulating this answer, it could be good to review the "principles of distributive justice" that we studied under "major moral principles" sometime back. Find my PowerPoint for a refresher.) Suggestion: If possible, start reading The Spirit Catches You. You Fall Down. Note your first response to questions from the book is due in just a couple of weeks - by the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week. Remember that these posts will be included in the Pop Discussion Board Evaluations. I recommend reading through page 100 by then. Get a good start this week because it is a long book - a good read, but long!
