Reflection

Write a one-two page reflection - minimum 250 words (usually more is necessary).

1. Compare the plight of the people who live in Plato's cave with the uneducated people of our world. You may use any type of education that you think the uneducated people of our world are missing out on and how it might help them change their beliefs about certain things.

2. Keep in mind that the people in Plato's cave were chained there - against their will - does this have a parallel with today's uneducated population? Remember, in our world, money is the measure of all things - those who have it win, those who don't do not - so what about the college-dropouts who are millionaires today? Was Plato focusing on something other than wealth as a measure of success?

3. Should people outside the cave have made a greater effort to go inside the cave to enlighten their fellow humans? Explain why or why not.

4. What is Plato assuming the people in the cave needed to know? What types of classes should EVERYONE have to take or demonstrate knowledge of at some point in their lives?
