Question: Colin is an EMR who has been called to assist a 43-year-old male patient who cut the ends of two of his fingers off on a table saw. After assessing the patient, Colin recommends that paramedics transport the patient to the hospital for further treatment of his fingers. The patient refuses to go to the hospital, saying that he can just bandage up his fingers and that they will be fine.

Since the patient is refusing treatment, Colin calls medical direction and explains the situation.

He is instructed to have the patient sign a waiver before leaving the scene. Explain what might happen if Colin does not get the form signed before leaving the patient and whether Colin should still turn in his patient care report.
