The second podcast focuses on the history of welfare in America, especially beginning during Industrialization. Consider how both podcast are connected; think about the importance of American values (individualism) and their impact on social welfare policies.

1. Explain what is meant by individualism in the United States and how this point of view shapes the American way of thinking about issues and problems. (podcast 1)

2. Discuss how for some the Welfare goes "against" American values, such as individualism (podcast 1 and 2).

3. Discuss how the Welfare system and policies emerged during Industrialization. (podcast 2)
