Assignment Brief and Guidance -

Scenario: You are working as an energy efficiency consultant, someone who will be contracted by external companies to analyse designs to help develop more energy efficient systems in place.

Activity 1: A small construction firm has approached you for an initial meeting to discuss bring you in to improving the efficiency of their buildings.

Task 1: You decide the best idea is to develop their understanding of some of the key terms used with regards to energy efficiency.

a) Explain what is meant by energy efficiency and discuss what measures can be taken to achieve it, using specific examples from both industry and transport. Elaborate on this point and discuss the factors that will contribute to energy efficiency in buildings, your discussion should consider at least two types of building.

b) Discuss what is meant by the term "sustainability" and explain the methods that can be (or have been) implemented to improve the sustainability of transport.

Activity 2: Impressed with the initial meeting. The small construction firm in Activity 1 have decided to bring you on to their project. The company has requested you to develop an energy management model for a building.

Task 2: a) Research possible, appropriate solutions to improve the energy efficiency of a building and write an evaluation report on each solution which details the technology and the means by which energy efficiency is improved.

b) Using a simulation software of your choice, build and test an energy management simulation for use in a building. It is important that you describe your simulation and provide appropriate evidence.
