A tetrameric protein dissociates into dimmers when the detergent sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is added to a solution of the protein. However the dimmers are termed SDS-resistant for the reason that they do not further dissociate into monomers in the presence of the detergent. Explain what intermolecular forces might be acting at the dimmer-dimmer interface? Explain Are the intermolecular forces at the monomer-monomer interface different?
