Everyone knows that eating the right foods is good for you, but how do the nutrients contribute to your overall health? You have 11 body systems that work together to maintain your health, and 6 of these systems are discussed at length in Chapter 3 of your text. Please read about these body systems in the Zimmerman and Snow textbook on pages 130-132 & 142-150. Also, when any of these body systems is disrupted through environmental conditions or genetic causes, disease may develop. Some of theses common problems are discussed regarding the digestive system in Chapter 3 of the Zimmerman and Snow text. Use the text to answer the following questions:

1. Explain what homeostasis is in the body, and describe one example of how your body maintains homeostasis (You may NOT use the Liver example provided in the book). Be specific with your explanation. You may need to do some additional research for this question.

2. Choose one of the human body systems discussed in Chapter 3 (digestive, circulatory, nervous, muscular, endocrine, and immune) and describe in detail what the major functions of this human body system are. Use your own words.

3. Specify which nutrients (macro and micro) affect the health of this particular system overall, and explain what the role of the nutrient is in this body system.

4. How could a lack in any specific nutrient affect this body system? Provide examples, symptoms.

5. Choose one of the disorders discussed in Chapter 3 (GERD, IBS, Celiac Disease, or Food Allergies), and briefly explain how this disorder affects your overall health.
