Question- I found that an idea gas at 40 degree Celcius would exert 24.96 mmHg pressure. How can you compare this with vapor pressure of water at the same temperature? What is the reason why the two numbers would be different?

I have read my textbook moreover I still don't understand so please provide me a very condensed, simple to know answer?
