Reading and writing instruction go hand-in-hand, especially to support and demonstrate comprehension.
Visit the Common Core State Standards for Writing.
Explore the writing standards, organized by grade level, using the right column. You will notice that in all grade levels, writing is encouraged for the following purposes:
1) opinion writing
2) expository/informational writing
3) narrative writing
Craft an initial post to the discussion board that answers the questions below. If you prefer, you can submit your responses to each question in presentation format.
Question A. Explain your understanding of these three different types of writing, and why they are taught across all grade-levels.
Question B. Discuss the reading/writing connection and how reading can be used to aid in writing instruction.
Question C. Share what age/grade/content area you hope to teach and at least one instructional strategy you plan to use to incorporate writing instruction in your classroom.
