Jordan Chan was employed for eight years with Syarikat Suria where he received an annual salary of RM 45,000. Two weeks ago, his favorite English Premier League club played an important match. This game was broadcasted live on Malaysian television at 4.00am. Aware that many of their employees are die-hard fans of the said football club, the management of Syarikat Suria warned its employees the day before the match that any employee who arrived late for work or are absent would be given severe warning and penalized one-day pay. Jordan had an excellent work record with Syarikat Suria. However, three months ago he became the trade union representative in his workplace and since then he has had several arguments with the management with regard to working hours, pay and working conditions in the company. Initially, Jordan decided to just record the game, but he ended up watching the live game together with a couple of his colleagues who were staying over at his house. Consequently, all three of them were late for work because they overslept. The company issued several warning letters to the affected employees. However, Jordan was suspended and subsequently dismissed from work.

He seeks your advice on whether the company's action in terminating him was just and reasonable.
