The correlation is misleadingly small Example: For married couples with one or more offspring, a demographic study was conducted to determine the effect of the families annual income (at marriage) on time (months) between marriage and the birth of the first child. Clearly a straight line model does not accurately describe what is going on with this data. Does this mean there is no relationship between income and time?

  Describing conditional probability

In an experiment, subjects are required to generate a "yes" or "no" decision. The probability of 'Yes' being correct is 50%. The observed probability of yes decisions is 70%.

Calculate the mean of the 20 samples

Calculate the mean of the 20 samples and draw a histogram showing the 20 sample means and describe the distribution of the x-bars that you see in part b (shape of distribution, center, and the amount of dispersion).

How large should the sample size

Suppose that we generate a random sample from a given dis- tribution. If it is desired that the probability that the sample mean will be within 2 standard deviations of the mean of the distribution is at least .99, how large should the sample size..

Create a frequency distribution of the sample mean

Construct a frequency distribution of the sample mean, and plot a histogram of this distribution. Use the central limit theorem to calculate and identify the sampling distribution of the sample mean.

Calculate the correlation between age and weigh

Established that the relation between age, and weight is somewhat linear. He calculated that the correlation between age and weight is 0.514. Describe the association.

  Question on joint distributions

John makes a mark on a straight stick that is 1 meter in length; you assign a uniform distribution to the location of the mark(uniform over the entire length of the stick). John cuts the stick at that mark, making two sticks.

Compute and interpret the machines cp

Consider a machine that fills soda bottles. The process has a mean of 15.9 ounces and a standard deviation of 0.06 ounces. The specification limits are set between 15.8 and 16.2 ounces. a) Compute and interpret the machine's Cp
