Module - Case Study Guidelines
Overview: Critical thinking is a habit of mind characterized by the comprehensive exploration of issues, ideas, artifacts, and events before accepting or formulating an opinion or conclusion. Case studies are meant to connect real-world scenarios with theoretical teachings. Students are expected to test assumptions and find creative ways to consider all the facets contributing to analysis of the case.
Prompt: To begin, watch the videos What if Dr. House used Twitter? and Training More Country Doctors. Next, you will compare the care approaches detailed in the videos by writing a paper that addresses the following questions:
• Describe the cultural beliefs and values presented in the videos.
• Explain the value to the patient of incorporating cultural awareness in the education of healthcare professionals. What is the value to the medical facility?
• Explain whether or not you believe insurance companies would cover the approaches to treatment described in the videos. If the insurance companies do not cover the approaches, how could the cost of time and services be recovered? Be sure to support your response.
• Explain whether either of the care delivery approaches described in the videos cause more or less competition among healthcare organizations and practitioners. Be sure to support your response.
• Explain whether or not you agree with providing services with these two approaches. Be sure to support your response.
• Explain whether or not embracing cultural beliefs, values, and these care delivery approaches within our medical organizations make the U.S. more or less competitive than other countries. Be sure to support your response.
