Assume you are the HR director for a large grocery food chain XYZ Grocery, a low-cost grocery provider selling to retail customers. For strategic reasons you have been asked by the CEO to provide a snapshot of HR and its impact on XYZ Grocery. The CEO is asking all company directors to complete similar analysis for their departments given recent pressures on food prices:
A key step in completing a strategic HR analysis is environmental scanning - examining what is happening outside the organization that could impact HR planning. Examples of some major forces impacting Canadian businesses are economic, social, legal, demographic, technological and cultural. In your essay you will examine the forces impacting organizations today, identify how these forces affect HR planning and outline what XYZ Grocery can do to manage these forces to be a talent destination - a place prospective employees want to work. In writing your essay to submit to the CEO answer the following three questions:
1. Identify and explain the top five external forces in 2022 that are impacting organizations and have the potential to impact HR in the grocery industry.
2. Explain the HR implications of the forces you have identified. What are the risks or opportunities that arise from these external forces for XYZ Grocery from an HR perspective?
3. Given the forces you identified and the HR implications you have outlined, provide recommendations to manage the HR implications to make XYZ Grocery a talent destination and maintain a work force of strong and dedicated employees providing excellent customer products and services.
