Chapter 2- Philosophical Tools
For this assignment, you will read the second half of Chapter 2 (Rauhut's book Ultimate Questions) on deductive and inductive argumentation.
Review each of the four major deductive arguments: Modus Ponens, Modus Tollens, Disjunctive Syllogism, Hypothetical Syllogism and the three major inductive arguments: Enumerative Inductive, Argument by Analogy, Inference to the Best Explanation)
Concisely describe the four deductive and three inductive arguments and provide original (your own) examples of each. You will also evaluate and explain the strengths and limitations of utilizing deductive and inductive reasoning.
You may also evaluate your examples in terms of validity and soundness (deduction), and strong/weak and cogency (induction).
The minimum requirement for this assignment is two-three pages (double-spaced). This is not a traditional essay assignment, so you do not need an introduction, body, and conclusion; however, your writing must demonstrate unity, coherence, organization (appropriate paragraph breaks and structure of argument) and your language must be clear and precise.
You will upload your response to Canvas using Microsoft Word or you can type the text directly into the assignment section. I do not want you using outside sources. Ultimate Questions ought to be your only source/reference.
