You have been asked to prepare a training session for the office''s next all-staff meeting. The purpose of the training is to better familiarize staff with managed care''s evolution and its current path, and provide detail related to Medicare and Medicaid, since those two public health programs come with their own special considerations. In addition, you are to devote part of the presentation solely to the potential ramifications of medical provider acceptance of Medicaid.
Specifically, you have agreed to create a slide presentation that covers the following topic areas:
Part 1: Managed Care and Reimbursement: Historical Development & Current Trends
Explain the relevance of key historical events: World War II, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicare and Medicaid, the HMO Act of 1973, the National Committee for Quality Assurance, the Affordable Care Act and health insurance exchanges.
Provide a visual reference for your audience by creating a timeline graphic that shows five of the key historical milestones related to managed care.
Part 2: The Goals, Structure and Impact of Medicare and Medicaid
Provide a basic, high-level summary of these important government-sponsored health programs.
Part 3: Accepting Medicaid Patients: Financial and Operational Issues
Up to now, the medical office has not accepted Medicaid patients, but the managers and doctors are considering changing this policy. They have asked you to use part of the presentation to explain the key financial and operational issues that could arise if they begin accepting Medicaid.
Include at least one original table or graphic for the busy doctors and staff that summarizes the pros and cons of taking on Medicaid patients.
Refer to the project resources identified for each part of the presentation. In addition to covering the three topic areas, your presentation should:
be a slide presentation
be designed to last 10-15 minutes
include presenter notes for every slide (you do not need to record the presentation, but your notes should provide the details you would discuss with each individual slide)
contain accurate information and an appropriate APA citation for every resource that you use
present information clearly and appropriately for the situation (professional medical-office staff meeting) and audience (a range of clinical and non-clinical employees with varying experience)
