An inexpensive hygrometer often used by cello players in Minnesota is based upon the color changes of cobalt(II)chloride as the relative humidity of the atmosphere changes. When the air is dry the color is blue; when the air is moist the color is pink. Suggest an explanation of these color changes. Suggest why Minnesota cello players use hygrometers.
