Using pH values to classify solutions as acidic, neutral, or basic is convenient. However, the basis for whether a solution is acidic, neutral, or basic is actually determined by the relative concentrations of H+ and OH- in solution represented (represented as [H+] and [OH- ]. In terms of [H+] and [OH- ] (and not pH), explain what makes a solution acidic, basic, or neutral.
