Case Study
You have recently been hired as the HR Generalist for ABC Meats, a frozen food wholesale business employing approximately 125 staff (most of which work in the warehouse). The business is growing, and personnel files are a mess due to significant turnover within the HR department. As a recent graduate of the University of Manitoba's HRM Certificate program, you are aware of HRIS software and think it could really help the business. In mentioning HRIS to your HR Manager one day, she asks you to prepare a report highlighting the major issues, as well as your recommendations.
- briefly explain the purpose of HRIS and what must be taken into account when exploring this software;
- discuss the role of privacy and security when considering an HRIS;
- discuss the value-added services an HRIS could offer your HR department/business; and
- conclude with your recommendations.
Incorporating course theory related to HRIS, write a report to ABC management, in which you:
- Briefly explain the purpose of HRIS and what must be taken into account when exploring this software
What will you use it for? What kind of a program (size, cost, functions) would this company need? Why do you feel it is needed-specifically according to the information you have about this company? Generally, what functions would the system need to have?
- Discuss the role of privacy and security when considering an HRIS
What are the risks? What kind of precautions should the company take?
- Discuss the value-added services an HRIS could offer your HR department/business
How would it help your company? What could it add to your company that would justify the cost? Be specific, use examples.
- Conclude with your recommendations.
