1. Type an essay on the economic dimensions of African politics: Your essay must address the following points: a) the impact of pre-colonial and colonial times on the economic conditions of Africa; b) a review of some of the bad economic policies implemented by African leaders after independence; c) the impact of the structural adjustment program; d) your recommendations as to how to eradicate poverty and promote economic development in Africa.

2. Explain the rationale for replacing the Organization of African Unity with the African Union. Is it realistic to call for the creation of a federated Africa with one continental government? Explain the pros, the cons and the possibility of such a continental government.

3. Give a summary of Africa's relations with the USA, Russia, and China. Should Africa give more weight to its relations with any of these three powers or should it treat these three powers on the same footing? Explain.
