Case Study: Oscar is two years old; he is running with another child around the yard. You notice that Oscar has stopped and looks pale; you walk over to him and as you get closer you notice he is having trouble breathing. You are aware that Oscar suffers from asthma and immediately call another educator to come over to stay with Oscar so that you can grab his asthma management plan and medication.
In this activity you are required to access the asthma policy and procedure of your service and take appropriate course of action in the situation.

You are required to perform the following tasks:

• Access the service policy and procedure
• Determine scope of own role and responsibilities in maintaining health and safety from policies and procedures.
• Determine the course of action you are required to undertake as per the asthma policy and procedure and asthma action plan. (attached at the end of the activity)
• Take action as per the asthma management plan and within the scope of your role.
• Answer the questions provided at the end of the activity.

Question 1 Explain the process of administering medication to Oscar.

Question 2 What are the risks that need to be addressed when administering medication to Oscar? Consider 'risks' as what could go wrong if correct protocol was not followed.
